Young Women & Girls

Young Women & Girls

Focus: Young Women & Girls

By listening to and amplifying the voices of young women and girls, they’ll know they are supported and celebrated.

Our next steps to achieve this are:

  • Implementing new, in-depth research around the needs of young women and girls.

  • Releasing these research findings at a Young Women & Girls Summit.

  • Using this research to educate and support current advocates, program providers, educators and policymakers on the unique needs of young women and girls.

In Allen County:

  • Middle and high school girls report feeling sad and hopeless and had higher rates of contemplating suicide than boys.

  • Girls in grades 7-10 were more than twice as likely to have made a plan for suicide than boys.

  • More girls are committing status offenses—like truancy, running away and curfew violations.
